![]() UIEvolution SDK Quickstart |
This topic describes the steps required to install the UIEvolution Software Development Kit ( UIE SDK).
The UIE SDK contains both client and server components. Both sets of components are Java(TM)-based and require Sun Microsystem's Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) to operate. Also, dynamically-generated, server-side components require a Java Servlet/Java Server Page container. The Apache Project's Tomcat servlet container is installed as part of the UIE SDK installation process.
The UIE SDK requires the Sun Java J2SE SDK to run. You can find Sun Microsystem's Java 2 Platform Standard Edition on their Web site at http://java.sun.com/j2se/. Download and install the J2SE SDK using the instructions on Sun's Web site.
Note: Version 1.4 or later of the J2SE SDK is required.
After you have installed the Java system software, set the environment variable JAVA_HOME to point to the J2SE SDK installation's root directory; this will be the directory containing Sun's license agreement and 'readme.txt' file. If you are unfamiliar with setting Windows environment variables on Windows NT or Windows 2000, see the Microsoft support topic Environment variables in Windows NT on their Web site at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q100/8/43.asp.
Now you are ready to install the UIE SDK. Download version 1.5 of the SDK from our Web site at http://developer.uievolution.com/ and install it by running the setup program 'uiesdk_1.5.0.exe'. The installation program will execute even if you have not properly set up Java, but you will not be able to run the programs in the SDK unless the Java installation steps above were completed. After you confirm your acceptance of the UIE SDK license agreement, the installation program will place all necessary files on the hard drive and add shortcuts to your start menu.
You are now ready to create and run UJML applications.
